Therapeutic Role of Antimicrobial Peptides in Diabetes Mellitus

چکیده
Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have recently become widely publicized because they the potential to function in alternative therapies as “natural” antibiotics, with their main advantage being a broad spectrum of activity. The for antimicrobial treat diabetes mellitus (DM) has been reported. In type I (T1D), cathelicidin-related peptide (CRAMP), cathelicidin (CAMP) and mouse-β- defensin 14 (mBD14) are positively affected. Decreased levels LL-37 human neutrophil 1-3 (HNP1-3) reported II (T2D) relative healthy patients. Moreover, AMPs from amphibians social wasps antidiabetic effects. infections occurring patients tuberculosis-diabetes or diabetic foot, granulysin, HNP1, HNP2, HNP3, beta-defensin 2 (HBD2), cathelicidins responsible pathogen clearance. An interesting is also use modified M13 bacteriophages containing encapsulated genes phagemids.

Therapeutic Potentials of Antimicrobial Peptides
Volume 5 • Issue 3 • 2013 Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are small proteins (<100 amino acids) which include alpha-defensins, beta-defensins and the cathelicidin LL-37 in humans [1]. Alpha-defensins are expressed in neutrophils as part of their non-oxidative antimicrobial mechanismsand are also found in Paneth cells in the intestine [2,3]. They are synthesized as precursors that are proteolytica...

Background and objectives: Amongst the serious metabolic disorders, diabetes mellitus (DM) is a common disease throughout the world. The excess of morbidity and mortality associated with DM and its complications emphasize the importance of new or alternative therapeutic strategies in prevention and treatment of this chronic disorder. Medicinal herbs grow vastly in Iran and are ...
متن کاملTherapeutic antimicrobial peptides may compromise natural immunity.
Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have been proposed as a promising new class of antimicrobials despite warnings that therapeutic use could drive the evolution of pathogens resistant to our own immunity peptides. Using experimental evolution, we demonstrate that Staphylococcus aureus rapidly evolved resistance to pexiganan, a drug-candidate for diabetic leg ulcer infections. Evolved resistance was ...
